Top of the pops analysis

Here is an example of a current pop magazine. This magazine relates to the magazine that i will hopefully create. The mast head used is important to be recognisable and simple and the magazine itself is aimed at the younger generation (age 11+). The main celebrity endorsement shown is Cheryl Cole however, we see a few boys stars shown too. Cleverly JLS and Justin Bieber are used as they are young and seen ad attractive. The cover lines are very playful and age appropriate. This keeping in with the magazine genre.

Pop music.

Pop music is a term used under the genre of 'popular music'. Pop music has been around since around 1926 as when a recorded song had a 'popular appeal' it became pop music...
Unlike other types of popular music, the lyrics of pop music is written by professional songwriters and popularized by the singers singing the song. This kind of music appears in popular record charts because of high popularity of the song both in terms of record sales as well as the airtime.
To appreciate Pop Music, a person does not require any knowledge regarding music. The primary object of writing such music is to make the listener of the music get enjoyment thereby leading to its commercial success. It is not necessary that all music of this genre would succeed.
Generally, pop music would run for less than five minutes. The instrumentation used to accompany such music could be as large as an orchestra to as small as a lone singer. Generally, a pop band consists of a lead guitarist, a bassist, a drummer, and a keyboardist along with one or more vocalists.
Popularity of this type of music started to increase from late 1940s with introduction of newer technologies in music recording industry. Introduction of such technology made it possible to produce recorded music that was of better quality and much cheaper in price. Because of these reasons, record sales increased quite a lot.
But, the evolution of Pop Music was not easy in the United Kingdom because of strict regulations regarding playing of records over the radio that was in place till 1967.
This type of music is still very popular and is influencing the music of different countries all over the world.

Perliminary task- Contents page

Here is the second part of the perliminary task which was to create a contents page for my school magazine. I included the same masthead as the front cover to link both pages together. Also the colour scheme i used on the front cover which was bright and different, i carried onto the contents page. This again to link them together. The topics i included in the list are all relevent and match any mentions made in the cover lines on the front cover. I included a brief extract from Mr Foley to show the head of the school. This is recognisable and familiar.

Preliminary task- STACS Sixth form

Here is my preliminary task which was to create a front cover for a school magazine. I choose to target my magazine at sixth form students as you can vary with more sophisticated topics as they would be understanded. I made it colourful to make it asthetically pleasing and make it stand out from possible other school magazines. Some of the cover lines are a bit over the top  but i have still made them relevent to the topic of school. I have included both a puff and a pug keeping within the conventions of magazines. Also, I have a masthead, celebrity endorsement, coverlines, barcode, dateline etc. Including all these things allows my mockup to become more realistic and life like meaning that more students will want to buy it.

M

This magazine cover is more for the hip hop genre, which means colour can be introduced more and also the topics are more varied; celebrity, make up, fashion etc. A type of celebrity endorsement has been used here also with direct mode of addres where as the celebrity (Lady Gaga) is looking at the camera. This is good because its a way of connecting with the viewer.

Pitch

On this cover, i tried to relate the font and colours to typical heavy metal magazines. I used straight font then a more messy font to show an uneven look. The colour conotations i used were red and black because they relate to the topic of dark, death, dull, creepy etc.

Freedom- The big brother issue.

I found this front cover design quite difficult to add to because of the strippy background. It was more difficult to get colours to stand out on it meaning they dont look as efective as they should do. This in my opinion does not work well as a magazine cover.

Film X

I decided to keep the coverline simple. I think 'do or die' is short and is relevent to the creepy image on the background. If i was to inlcude loads of cover lines it would take away from the image and not be as effective. The colours used are very dark and sinister which is a good use of colour connotation. As it again relates to the context the magazine is under.

Practice school contents page

This again is another practice draft for my school magazine. This being the contents page. I included relevent topics and images.

Practice School magazine front cover.

Here is my first draft attempt of my school magazine. I included the head teacher, a few cover lines which are school based and also a relatable masthead.
